  1. A Call of Help to the Sisters in NY.

We would like to plan and set up a gathering, or two, of Tradeswomen and Women in the Industry, in NY, Friday April 8th.

Who, where, what,…. are up to our East Coast Sisters. I have only worked in NY once for a short time, and so am Totally clueless, and in need of help.

Please pass this notice of intent, and request for help to any and all in the area…..

In an effort to get coverage for the cause, the Sisters helped coordinate an article in Engineering News Record, with Sisters writing in across the US, and well beyond.

To help get our cause again in the light, Luke, the reporter put my name in the hat for the Newsmaker Award.

    And I”ll be Damn……

The Sisters in the Building Trades has won national recognition for it's outreach and connecting and supporting tradeswomen in all trades, everywhere we can reach.

That story of the dismal progress of women in the industry, and our effort to connect the women in the industry, their organizations, and supporters, across the continent and as far around the world as we can reach, made the Newsmaker award list.

Combined with the fact that the US Department of Labor has said they will finally, this summer, address the 30 year old language of “good faith effort,”

and the announcement that the National Building Trades will support and sponsor the first “Women Build the Nation” conference, this April makes this a historic moment for us, watched by women in the industry around the world.

Our nonprofit has been using creativity, innovation and elbow grease, with no paid staff, and a few thousand a year in donations, to find and create ways to make positive change, and immense progress in it’s goals, from the work, effort and dedication of women in all of the trades.

We would like more of our East Cost Sisters more connected, to know their issues, solutions, ideas, problems, projects, passions and hopes, so that we may share them with all.

So we are working on having a table of 10 of us Thursday the The Newsmaker Awards is in Times Sq. April 7th. http://construction.com/events/2011/AOE/program.asp

And I would be honored to meet with as many tradeswomen and women in the industry in NY, that Friday as we can.

Legal Momentum has offered their help and offices to set something up, in the evening and use of office space for meetings during the day.

NAWIC and NOW alliance members have also volunteered to join in to help coordinate a Gathering.

We need to know who would want to attend.

Legal Momentum has space for up to 30 proposed time of 4:30 to 7pm.

A place with food, we can gather and talk and there may be dancing near by for 8pm to midnight is a question up in the air.

Ideas for a good use of our time Friday and Saturday during the day are requested.

Many Thanks, and I look forward to meeting you, learning, and having some fun.
