Scholarships for Women!!!



This scholarship is awarded to female college juniors from across the country for academic excellence, leadership skills, and community involvement. Winners receive a $5,000 award and a 3-night trip to New York. Glamour has been awarded females with these scholarships for over 55 years.
·         Award Amount: $5,000
·         2011 Deadline: December 1
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must be a full-time junior in an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada and must submit 2 letters of recommendation.
·         Bonus: Winners get featured on Glamour's website in the competition's section.
College Scholarships Foundation gives away scholarships to female students each year. The organization aims to help relieve the financial burden of college so that women can focus on what's most important, "caring for the current and future generations." Applicants are encouraged to stand out from the crowd by writing the required essay in a unique style.
·         Award Amount: $500
·         2011 Deadline: December 31
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen, have a 3.0 GPA or higher, be currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program, and submit a 300-word essay.
Soroptimist awards these scholarships in the hopes of making a true difference in the lives of women who provide the primary financial support for their families. The organization gives away over $1.5 million annually, and has given about $25 million overall since 1972. Applicants must be part of theSoroptimist network, which includes 19 countries and territories in the Americas.
·         Award Amount: $500
·         2011 Deadline: December 1
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must provide the primary financial support for a family, demonstrate financial need, be accepted to or enrolled in a vocational or undergraduate program, reside in one of the Soroptimist network regions, and not have received an award from the organization before or be a member, employee, or immediate family member of either.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association awards 26 postgraduate scholarships to help minorities and females participate in intercollegiate athletics. The scholarships will be split evenly between ethnic minorities and female college graduates who will be entering their initial year of postgraduate studies. The scholarships are not renewable and candidates are only eligible for one NCAA scholarship.
·         Award Amount: $6,000
·         2011 Deadline: December 2
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must have applied to or been accepted into a graduate program relating to sports administration, be a U.S. citizen, demonstrate excellence, and not have begun any initial postgraduate studies.
·         Notification Date: February
The grant provides 19 scholarships each year to female undergraduate African American students who have an interest in computer science or information technology. Students must be attending Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. This is a four-year program and awards are based on financial need. The scholarship money comes from a recently awarded $552,000 National Science Foundation grant.
·         Award Amount: $2,000-$5,000 per semester
·         2011 Deadline: July 30
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must be a FAMU undergraduate student, a U.S. Citizen, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, show evidence of financial need, and be enrolled in Computer and Information Sciences (CIS), Computer Engineering, or Mathematics.
The American Association of University Women offers this grant to women who already have a bachelor's degree and are pursuing a graduate degree in the pursuit of career advancement. Minority women, women pursuing their first graduate degree, and women pursuing non-traditional fields receive priority. The AAUW began this program in 1972, when it awarded 50 women with the grants. All institutions must be accredited and distance education funds are available.
·         Award Amount: $2,000-$12,000
·         2011 Deadline: December 15
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must have a B.A. and be preparing to re-enter the work force or change careers. Special consideration for women of color, those pursuing a first graduate degree, and women pursuing nontraditional fields.
·         2010 Summary: 47 grants, 55% women of color, 865 eligible applicants, $500,000 in total awards.
The AAUW offers three American Grants and Fellowships annually: Postdoctoral Research Leave Fellowship ($30,000), Dissertation Fellowship ($20,000), and Summer/Short-Term Research Publication Grant ($6,000). All awards support women doctoral candidates who have demonstrated scholastic excellence and have made a commitment to helping women and girls.
·         Award Amount: $6,000-$30,000
·         2011 Deadline: November 15
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, be pursuing a doctoral degree and have established a research project, and have never received one of these awards in previous years.
·         2010 Summary: 68 fellowships, 14 grants, 37% women of color, 1205 eligible applicants, $1.28 million in total awards.
The Thompson Scholarship for Women in Safety will award one scholarship to a student pursuing a graduate degree in occupational safety & health or another similar degree. The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) is a sponsor for this scholarship. ASSE membership is not a requirement.

·         2011 Deadline: November 1
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must be a full-time student pursuing a graduate level degree in occupational safety and health or a related field. US citizenship is not required.
This fellowship brought to you by Zonta International, awards talented women who are pursuing the typically male-dominated fields of aerospace-related engineering and sciences. Zonta has donated over $7 million to over 1,200 women from 64 countries since the programs start.
·         Award Amount: $10,000
·         2011 Deadline: November 15.
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must be pursuing a Ph.D. or doctoral degree, demonstrate academic excellence in the field of aerospace, and not be a member of Zonta.
·         Note: Current fellows may reapply through the same process as first-time applicants.

This scholarship, sponsored by the Association for Women Geoscientists, is for undergraduate women pursuing a bachelor's degree and a career or graduate work in the geosciences. Eligible fields of study include geology, environmental and engineering geology, geochemistry, geophysics, hydrogeology, and hydrology. Students must be in at least their second year of a two- or four-year college in Oregon or Washington State.
·         Award Amount: $1,000
·         2011 Deadline: December 6
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in the geosciences, must be in t least their second year at a 2- or 4-year institution, must have a minimum GPA of 3.2, and must be attending college in Oregon or Washington state.
This scholarship is sponsored by Zonta International, a global organization of professionals striving towards advancing the status of woman across the globe. It is geared towards young women ages 16-19 in high school or secondary level school who demonstrate a commitment to leader in public policy. Over 500 young women from 49 countries have won awards.
·         Award Amount: $3,000
·         2011 Deadline: December 1
·         Eligibility Requirements: Must be a pre-college or pre-university student, be 16-19, be living or studying in a Zonta district/region, and demonstrate a passion for volunteering, experience in local or student government, leadership potential, and knowledge and support of Zonta's mission and goals.
